Every picture tells a story.
“Mariah in Cataract Falls at the small town mart in the middle of nowhere that has the old gas station pumps out front,” says Colts Cheerleader manager Kelly Tilley. “To me, that’s so Indiana small town symbolic and it looks like the store on a gravel road that you went to as a little kid to get your soda.”
“We were just driving down a country road looking for some flowers and we would stop somewhere and get out and see if it would work,” says Jessica G. “And we’d be like, ‘No, we’ll drive a little bit further.’ And then finally when we found it, it was like, ‘Ok. We think this is it.’”
“We waited a couple of hours for the storm to pass and then Matt Bowen was like, ‘Let’s just do this. And you’re up – in the rain.’ The punchbowl is where I shot at in Turkey Run. And it’s these rivers that kind of merge together, so there’s rapids,” says second-year cheerleader Sarah S. “It was a fun experience and we made an awesome memory.”
Flipping through the Colts Cheerleaders swimsuit calendar is like taking a road trip through the state of Indiana and stopping to take pictures at all the beautiful places along the way.
“We totally captured what our state has to offer,” says rookie cheerleader Jessica R. “It wasn’t anything extravagant, but it was pure and homey. I loved it.”
On Monday night at the Indianapolis Museum of Art, the Colts Cheerleaders held their calendar release party where friends, family, and fans were invited to view the photos and see the 2016-2017 Colts Cheerleaders Swimsuit Calendar unveiled for the first time.
For Tilley, it’s one of the highlights of the year.
“What I was mostly looking forward to tonight, was me and the girls before the party started, bringing out their big pictures and then showing them one by one, the awesome photo that they took that’s in the calendar for this season.”
“It’s great how Kelly does it because she has them all turned around and she picks up our big poster, she tells a little bit of a story behind the photo,” says Jessica G. “Then she turns it around and it’s just so fun because all of our friends are cheering and everyone is just really happy for everyone.”
“When you’re sitting there and all the pictures are being unveiled, everyone is cheering for each other and we’re all so excited and it’s just one of those moments where you’re just giddy,” says Brittany H.
“It feels like the first time every time. This is my fourth calendar and every time, your face just lights up and it’s just so surreal,” says Kaiti C.
Tilley says the evening is a thank you to everyone who came together and made the calendar possible – the sponsors, the people from the State of Indiana, their stylist, Danielle Smith (Fresh Fettle), the Colts video crew, the production staff, and Colts photographer Matt Bowen.
“To have your in-house photographer be able to shoot such awesome stuff for the football team, but then also be able to be a little bit more artistic and creative with the cheerleaders – not every team has a photographer that can do both of those,” she says. “We are really lucky to have Matt Bowen.”
“He works magic. And this is all in Indiana,” says Sammy T. “You would never guess that there’s so much beauty. What he does with a camera is incredible.”
“We’re luckily in the art gallery tonight, which is as much Matt’s gallery as any other. So, it’s very appropriate,” says Brittany.
The Colts Cheerleaders swimsuit calendar is a celebration of the bicentennial of the State of Indiana and the 100th anniversary of the Indiana State Parks.
And what better way to highlight the natural beauty of Indiana than with the natural beauty of the Colts Cheerleaders?
After all, “Who doesn’t love Indiana and girls in swimsuits?” says Jessica R.
The Colts Cheerleaders Swimsuit Calendar will be available online and in the Colts Pro Shop.
