Meet The Girls Who Want To Sparkle For The Shoe: Rose

It was college that brought Rose to Indiana.

“I’m originally from Syracuse, New York, but I always knew that I wanted to not stay in Syracuse for school. So, I ended up at Notre Dame.”

But it was Hoosier hospitality that kept her here.

“I looked at jobs in other places, but when it came to actually picking an offer and going to interviews, I was like, ‘I like Indiana. I love it here.’ I wanted to be in Indianapolis. So, I applied to a few places, got a few offers, and then chose one. And here I am, two years later.”

She studied civil engineering and now works as a structural engineer in transportation.

“If you take transportation and structures, for the most part you get bridges. So on a daily basis, I’m usually doing bridge designs – whether it’s rehabilitation or brand new construction – that’s what I do and I love it. It’s a lot of fun.”

She’s one of the few women who work at her firm. But she’s got flexible hours that help her juggle her interests and the people she works with are very supportive.

“They are very understanding of the fact that even as an engineer, you still need hobbies. Mine just happen to be a little more unique than the average engineer.”

Even with a demanding job, Rose knows she can manage the demands of the Colts Cheerleaders. Like anything else, she says it’s just a matter of priorities.

“I’ve always said that if you want to do something, you’ll find a way to do it. That’s how I was in college. I not only did engineering, but I was on the pom squad at Notre Dame and I also did pageants.”

Rose was crowned Miss Indiana Sweetheart in 2015 and Miss Central Indiana in 2016. Competing for Miss Indiana, she says she grew in many ways. And she formed some close relationships with Colts cheerleaders along the way.

“After my first year competing at Miss Indiana, we wanted to go to Miss America. So, we had a group of five of us that were going to take a road trip out to Atlantic City, New Jersey,” she says. “Everyone backed out, but I really, really wanted to go. So, I messaged Sammy and said, ‘Hey, do you still want to go?’ So, the two of us got in a car, road tripped to Atlantic City and realized that we were long lost best friends.”

After aging out of Miss America, Rose is hoping to trade her sash and crown for a pair of pom-poms and boots.

“It’s just having that goal,” she says. “Watching Sammy on the field during some of her games, that’s another goal. It’s looking at it and knowing you may or may not achieve it, but going after it anyway because that’s what’s going to make you happy.”

Rose sparkled on the stage.

Now, she wants to sparkle for the shoe.
